Benefits of Intermittent Fasting

Intermittent fasting refers to a pattern of eating where you alternate between periods of eating normally and fast. Many different types of intermittent fasting exist. Some are quite popular. Perhaps the most common type of intermittent fasting is where you skip breakfast. 

Intermittent fasting may offer many health benefits, including weight loss. This happens because the body begins to burn fat instead of excess carbohydrates in the body as fuel. When you stop eating constantly the body has to turn to fat for fuel. The body will not go into starvation mode if fasting is not engaged in all of the time. That is why fasting is referred to as intermittent rather than a constant fast. 

It is important to eat a healthy diet as part of intermittent fasting, so the body gets the nutrients, vitamins and minerals it needs to stay healthy. 

Other benefits include lack of hunger when dieting. Many people report the body adopts a new style of eating when fasting. Many people that diet using ordinary diets often report feeling hungry. This does not usually happen during intermittent fasting. Typically instead hunger is replaced with a pronounced lack of hunger. 

When you are not fasting, it is important that you eat satisfying, nutrient dense meals. The body adapts to this and will come to expect this when you regularly engage in intermittent fasting. If however, you eat sugary, carbohydrate laden foods while not fasting, your body will not get the vitamins and nutrients it needs to sustain itself, and you may feel weak and hungry while fasting. 

Many people find that intermittent fasting is the best way to promote rapid fat loss. This can happen more quickly when you eat lean proteins and a diet that is rich in complex carbohydrates as a result of fasting. Other benefits include relief from fatigue and irritation due to constant hunger. Some intermittent fasters even report greater mental focus, which may be the result of the release of certain hormones called catecholamines, which often occurs during periods of fasting.
